"Funky, fun" scarfs have come to Woolderness. We are now carrying a new line of handknitted scarfs by Katie E. She uses many different kinds of yarns and roving to create the most unusual, one-of-a-kind scarfs. They range in price from $42 and up. Come check them out!

Katie E is also creating some fabulous "bulky" yarns that would be wonderful in your knitting and weavings. Thanks, Katie for all your hard work and creativity!

Here Annie is hard at work with the drum carder. After I dye the wool, she runs it through the drum carder before it goes on the floor for sale. Even though drum carding is not her favorite thing to do at Woolderness, she does it with a smile! Thanks, Annie.
Woolderness has added candles to their studio. We are selling Woodwick Candles. These candles have a great scent and because the wick is WOOD, they "crackle" when burning. We carry a 10 oz. candle that sells for $17, the 22 oz. candle sells for $23 and the Reed Diffusers sells for $25. We also carry the Car Scents that sell for $5. Give them a try! A new shipment should be arriving this week!

Music, Art Dockside

What a beautiful day we had in Hessel on Sunday, July 20 for Music, Art Dockside. The sun was shining, the music was WONDERFUL, the view was spectacular and everyone seemed to be having a great time! As usual, I forgot to bring my camera so I do not have any pictures to post for you. A huge thank you to everyone who attended this annual event!

I am going to just throw a lot of "stuff" at you in no particular order. So, here goes.

Have you ever tried NEEDLE PUNCH? Needle punching is SO easy -- anyone can do it. Kids love to needle punch. In fact, I have given classes to kids at our local library (which is beautiful, by the way), ages 7 - 10. I have had teachers and 4-H leaders do needle punch with their kids. I have had the Les Cheneaux Red Hat ladies in the studio NEEDLE PUNCHING. Here is a sample:

I have put together a "KIT" for beginners to try. In the large kit you get a piece of wool felt (17" X 19"), 11, 1/4oz balls of roving (all different colors) and 2 needles. You supply the foam to punch on and the design. It sells for $19.50.

The small kit contains a piece of wool felt (approx. 10" X 10"), 9, 1/8 oz balls of roving (all different colors) and 1 needle. Again, you supply the foam to punch on and the design. This kits sells for $8.

Here is a sampler of beginning TAPESTRY WEAVING using hand-dyed, 2-ply, rug yarn. Aren't the colors fabulous!

I even threw some ROVING in there. The possibilities are endless. You must give tapestry weaving a try. Ask Shelley, you WILL get hooked!
It has been a few days since I have added anything to this blog -- so sorry for that! I have been busy getting ready for Art, Music Dockside! This event is being held at the marina in Hessel (Michigan). There will be artists, music all day and great food! Let's hope the weather is equally great!

Woolderness is a Louet dealer. At the present time, we only sell Louet spinning wheels. We have 4 different styles in the studio ready for you to try out -- including the very portable Victoria 95! As a Louet dealer, we carry repair parts for the wheel as well as hand carders, niddy noddies, Gaywool dyes, bobbins, drop spindles and more!

Hanging from the wire rack is hand-dyed rug yarn (2 ply). This yarn is great for rug punching, weaving (on the loom) and for tapestry weaving. Just look at this picture!

Rag Rug is Finished!

The rag rug is off the loom! What a great rug! I have to make a few adjustments, so the next one will be perfect. I will be posting a picture in the next few days. This is a picture of the rug "almost" done. It sure does look good on my floor!

Did I tell you that we carry a GREAT line of floss (The Gentle Art) -- cotton, wool & silk. All are hand-dyed. We also carry the supplies for PUNCH NEEDLE ENBROIDERY.

We have MORGAN hoops!

Today the studio received a good cleaning. It is amazing how things get out of hand when you get busy. The roving has been reorganized and consolidated. We have a great supply of roving! I am so excited and anxious to start "blending" some FUN stuff to spin.

My daughter, Katie, is on a knitting frenzy! She is frantically knitting some really FUN scarfs. I can't wait to show you.

Mark July 20 on your calendar -- if you will be in the Les Cheneaux area. MUSIC, ART DOCKSIDE, sponsored by the Les Cheneaux Artisans Cooperative. It is a day of good music, great art and delicious food! Come join us in Hessel at the marina -- 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Today we had a felted purse class. What a great time we had! Wendy created a beautiful lime green and pink handbag. This was her first attempt at needle felting and she really enjoyed it!

Joan and Sharla also took the class and created beautiful bags! Joan and Sharla are vacationing in the Les Cheneaux Islands and stumbled upon Woolderness and had a great time. They are from Duluth, Minnesota. Welcome to our area - we are glad you are here!

If all goes well, I will be putting pictures of these ladies on this blog. But be patient with me because I do not know what I am doing!

Diane is busy blending alpaca and romney to create that perfect roving for her to spin. Good luck, Diane.

At Woolderness you can "buy" hours and use our equipment to complete your project -- a spinning wheel, the drum carder and any of the looms. Buy hours? What that means is that for $2/hr. you are considered a "member" of the studio and you can use all our equipment. What a great way to "try before you buy" or to just attempt that project you have been wanting to do...with very little financial investment.

Annie was in the studio today helping me out with drum carding the roving that had been dyed.
Thanks, Annie, for all your help. I couldn't do it without you!

Come back often. More pictures will be posted soon.
I am having a little trouble downloading all the pictures I took today. I will try again tomorrow and hopefully I will be able to show you the finished bags!

Woolderness has just acquired a LOT of roving! I was fortunate to have been able to purchase a lot of ROVING from another spinner and it is sitting in the middle of the studio -- waiting to be sorted. Once I compile the complete list of wool, I will pass it on to you.

The looms at Woolderness are VERY busy! Right now we are warped for dish towels, 36" rugs and placemats/table runners. Pat is working on a table runner using "natural dyed" yarns from all her workshops. It is BEAUTIFUL. I will be posting a picture soon! I am working on 100% cotton dish towels in shades of pink.

Woolderness is busy getting ready for Music, Art Dockside to be held in Hessel on July 20 from 10 a.m - 4 p.m. (It might start at 11 a.m. - I will have to check that out.) It is a fun day of music and art -- for all ages! We even have a kids' tent where they can be creative. There will be lots of good food, too!

Coming soon ... pictures of Woolderness!
